The Gospels explain the covenental aspects of the Christ's death in some depth, but unless one knows and understands the Jewish traditions, the explanation is lost!
Christ was the sacrificial Lamb of God for His Covenant with "all nations".
The crux of the New Covenant or New Testament is Christ's death on the cross - thus it's a fitting symbol to us - we should also remember that although He had power to resurrection, He allowed himself to suffer the degrading death on the cross.
That picture is not stupid, but a serious reminder to us of His love for us! |
